From our newsletter of Easter 1999

We celebrate Mass every weekday in the chapel of Blessed Gérard's Care Centre & Hospice for the patients, volunteers and staff. In this way we experience help and strength in accepting Christ's invitation: "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.

Tuberculosis epidemic

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has initiated a programme with the aim of eradicating tuberculosis in Africa. Government statistics show that more people die from tuberculosis than from AIDS. If AIDS is already so prevalent, as the statistics prove, then we are facing an enormous problem in our area. Between the two diseases, TB and AIDS, we are facing a very dire future in kwaZulu/Natal. Therefore, the Brotherhood of Blessed Gérard is happy to be involved in the campaign from the beginning. Our contribution is very practical together with Dr Jonathan from Stangen, who is the coordinator for this area, and with all the other medical professionals and institutions and directly with the patients.
