In the 2016 newsletter, Children’s Home manager Hayne Clark tells the story of the girls’ first camping trip. After the boys had gone camping during their winter break, the girls wanted a trip of their own. At Zinkwazi Forest Camp they pitched tents with the carers and spent happy hours in the water.

The girls shared cooking and cleaning duties. They explored the lagoon and rock pools at the beach; in the evenings everyone played, talked and gathered around the campfire. The trip gave them time to discover new places, laugh and work together. On the way home they were already asking about the next camp.

The newsletter gives no exact date for the trip. The date shown here reflects publication of the newsletter, not the day of the outing. The photographs show scenes from the camp described.
