The newsletter accompanying the 2013 Annual Report tells of a baby boy whom government social workers placed in the care of Blessed Gérard’s Children’s Home after he was found alone. The home gave him the name Sandile, meaning “we are growing”.
His caregivers and the other children remembered how much Sandile enjoyed playing, laughing and being carried. Later, the welfare social worker arranged for him to move into prospective adoptive care. A few weeks afterward, the Children’s Home learned that Sandile had died. The people who had cared for him mourned his loss and remembered their time together with gratitude.
