Falakhe: A familiar place

When Falakhe needed help in 2023, he remembered the good care his mother had received at Blessed Gérard’s Care Centre. She had died there peacefully in 2014. Years later, he needed care himself and could no longer manage daily life on his own. At the hospice he found a safe place, kind people and support while he regained strength. He told Maresi Rehder how relieved and grateful he felt.

Simphiwe: Regaining strength

Simphiwe Mathonsi said in February 2024 that she had been so weak on admission that she could neither sit nor walk. Her adult children worked during the day and could not give her enough care at home. The nursing team offered her a place at the Care Centre. Here she received help and companionship. She hoped to become strong enough to return home soon.

Sandile: Hope for a fresh start

Sandile also found support at the hospice. In February 2024 he spoke about long periods of illness and his worries about the future. Treatment and reliable care gave him hope of living and working independently again.
