Father Sylvester Tusaninkosi Ngema had lived at Blessed Gérard’s Hospice and Care Centre since November 2016. In his own account for the 2019 newsletter, he thanked the staff and volunteers for their care, healthy meals and the sense of community he found among the children and patients.
He was especially moved by the way the care team accompanied people nearing the end of life and treated everyone with respect, whatever their faith. The daily Mass in the church was also important to him. He described the hospice as a place where people received care, dignity and a sense of belonging.
