David Dempsey Dunn: Recovering and returning home

Wheelchair illustration from Newsletter No. 15 (July 1998), p. 5; this is not a photo of David Dempsey Dunn.

In July 1998, the newsletter told the story of David Dempsey Dunn. His family brought him to Blessed Gérard’s Care Centre and Hospice when he was seriously ill. During three weeks of care he recovered enough to undergo an operation in hospital. After further care and rehabilitation, he returned home.

The original report also described his family’s wish to obtain a wheelchair for him. It illustrates how nursing care and rehabilitation can open up new possibilities. The fundraising appeal in that issue is a historical record, not a current request.
