An older woman came to the social worker at our Care Centre. After both her daughters died, she and her unemployed son were caring for six grandchildren. Several children lacked birth certificates, which made it difficult to obtain child support grants and to enrol the eldest boy in school.
Our social worker visited the family. First, they received food parcels, baby formula, clothes and blankets. She then helped to apply for the missing birth certificates, spoke with the school and involved the Bursary Fund. The boy was able to start school. The team kept in contact with the family.
