Nomusa Magnificent Nxumalo began volunteering at the Care Centre in 2003. After training in home care and first aid, she helped first in the Hospice and then in the Children’s Home. Further nursing education seemed beyond her financial reach. The team enabled her to study at St. Mary’s Nursing College. After graduating in 2006, she returned to nursing.
At the Hospice, Nomusa cared for patients and joined home assessments. From 2008 she worked in the HAART programme, dispensing medication, counselling patients and offering health education. Looking back in the 2018 newsletter, she was grateful for the opportunity. Her training supported her family and enabled her to serve people in Mandeni. This account describes her work at the time of the newsletter; it does not establish her current role.
