Thuli came to Blessed Gérard’s Hospice in 2005, weak and in need of help. When she began to feel better, she prepared for antiretroviral treatment. A further serious illness took her first to hospital and then back to the hospice. For a time, she could not walk and needed close support.
Thuli, her family and the care team persevered together. Step by step, her sight and strength returned. She could sit up and then walk again. After about six months, she was well enough to go home. Sister Liz Coetzer particularly remembered Thuli’s smile and the team’s shared effort.
