On 26 June 2007, a family brought an expectant mother to Blessed Gérard’s Care Centre shortly before she was due to give birth. The clinics they had visited could not help during a national nurses’ strike. The Hospice doctor, a midwife and other staff immediately cared for her.
Just 15 minutes later, her daughter Nothando was born. Her name means “the loving one”, and she weighed 3.4 kilograms. It was the first birth in the Care Centre’s treatment room and, for the team, an example of its commitment to help people in need whenever it could.
